Gettin' ready for the East Austin Studio Tour!

Finishing up some lamps!

I feel so grateful for the neighborhood I live in. If I leave home on my bike I can quickly encounter an abundance of art studios, woodworking shops, sawmills, sculpture parks, urban gardens, and plenty of great food and drink. But it’s not only the abundance of art and great experiences to be enjoyed, it’s also the folks who live here who appreciate, participate in, and promote all of these things. After moving to Austin I was thrilled to discover the buzzing art scene right here, and many of these places I discovered during my first experience of the East Austin Studio Tour (EAST). Getting to visit artists studios, woodshops, workshops, etc in the walking tour format of EAST is such a great way to get to know what’s going on in town. This year I am so thrilled to be a part of EAST from the artist’s side. I have worked hard to prepare items for sale and display. Thanks to some friends who saved my behind this morning (after I worked my tail off for the last month, and didn’t have the time I would’ve liked to, just to clean my house and set up for the tour), my space is looking great and ready for the public. I’m showing finished work as well as work in progress, and I’m offering snacks, beverages, conversation, and music to accompany the “art” viewing and purchasing experience. If you live in town, I can’t wait to see you. If you don’t live in town, let’s plan for your visit during next year’s EAST!

P.S. My house is also (unoficially) displaying visual art by the great artists Macy Margolin and Leah Danze. I’m psyched to share a space with these amazing creators!
